Natural Medicine Works

Meet Dr. Murphy

Coleen Murphy, ND, MSAOM

About Me
I moved to California in 2005 once the state began licensing Naturopathic Doctors, I am ND #137.  Having a strong focus on natural therapeutics for immune wellness, I establishefd my first office in the Castro district of San Francisco.

Today I practice as a family medicine doctor and offer compassionate medicine for the whole family. After the birth of my children, I have focused more on pediatrics and have been amazed by how effective natural medicines such as herbs and homeopathy are on children.

Personal Statement
As a naturopathic doctor, I strive to achieve the highest level of health and vitality for those I treat. I believe in addressing the root cause of disease and treating it with non-invasive, natural therapies. My role is to inform and inspire you to take control of your health and to overcome your limitations. I care for the individual and offer personalized treatment plans while working side by side as a team with your other health care providers.

My Life and Medicine

I grew up in Northeast Philadelphia in a row home on a busy street. I aspired to be an island doctor, dispensing medicine in paradise. I attended Syracuse University and returned to Philadelphia as a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist.
Once the travel bug bit, I uprooted myself and took a year long journey through Asia, complete with training in Traditional Thai Massage at a Buddhist Temple in Northern Thailand. This experience, seeing the effectiveness and respect for life and nature inherent to traditional medicine, put me on the path to be a naturopathic doctor.

I returned to Philadelphia in 1996 and began to practice and teach Thai Massage, and helped to spread this ancient healing art through the bricks and cobblestones of my hometown. I soon added the practice of Reiki, studying with Kim Fleisher who went on to establish The Reiki School in Olde City, Philadelphia, as well as Qi Gong and Craniosacral therapy. My experience as a bodyworker has been invaluable to the physical medicine work I do with my patients.
